The Belgian Tervuren, frequently simply referred to as the” Terv,” is a distinguished strain known for its intelligence, dexterity and striking beauty. This breed, which originates from Belgium, is one of four kinds of Belgian Shepherd, the others being the Belgian Malinois, Belgian Laekenois and the Belgian Groenendael. While each variety shares certain traits, the Tervuren stands out due to its elegant appearance and remarkable versatility. Whether you’re seeking a pious family pet, a working canine, or a mate for competitive sports, the Belgian Tervuren is an excellent choice.

History of Belgian Tervuren

The Belgian Tervuren was first bred in the Belgian Villa of Tervuren, so its name is Belgian Tervuren. Originally, these breeds were primarily used as herding dogs. Belgium’s need for protean ranch tykes that could also guard beasts led to the development of this strain. Over time, Tervurens became known for their rigidity, serving not only as herding dogs but also outstripping in tasks similar to police work, hunt and deliverance, and indeed remedy. At the moment, they continue to be honored for their versatility, intelligence, and fidelity.

Appearance of Belgian Tervuren

One of the most famous and notable features of the Belgian Tervuren is its luxurious double fleece. The fleece is long, straight, and beautiful, especially around the neck, forming a distinctive mane. Their coloring is generally a rich fawn to mahogany, with a black overlay that gives them a striking and elegant appearance. Tervurens have a balanced, muscular body, erect carriage, and dark almond-shaped eyes that transude alertness and intelligence.

Size and Height of Belgian Tervuren

Their size ranges between 22 to 26 elevation in height, with males generally being slightly larger than ladies. Despite their robust figure, Belgian Tervurens carry themselves with grace and dexterity, which makes them excellent players in both work and sport.

Tervurens are known for their violent fidelity to their families. They thrive on mortal fellowship and are happiest when they have a purpose or job to perform. Their intelligence and trainability make them quick learners, and they excel in obedience, dexterity, and other canine sports. Common issues in Tervurens may include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and progressive retinal atrophy( PRA).
